Pirates sign Jo-Jo Reyes and Logan Kensing

The Pirates announced 2 minor league deals over the past 2 days. Yesterday, the Bucs signed lefty starter Jo-Jo Reyes, who started 25 games between Baltimore and Toronto last year. Over 140 2/3 innings, he went 7-11 with a 5.57 ERA. Reyes should serve as AAA depth and will probably only sniff the Major League

Pirates sign Jason Grilli for $1.1 million

Pirates, Jason Grilli agree to terms on a $1.1MM deal for 2011, I have learned. — Ben Nicholson-Smith (@mlbtrben) December 13, 2011 Sack is back. Jason Grilli posted a 2.48 ERA over 32.2 innings last season. He struck out 37 and walked 15. This deal will avoid the Bucs taking Grilli to arbitration.

Pirates trade Jose Veras to Brewers for Casey McGehee

The Pirates and Brewers swapped 2 non-tender candidates this evening when reliever Jose Veras was shipped out to Milwaukee for 3B Casey McGehee. Jose Veras served as the club’s 8th inning man for most of the year last year as he posted a 3.80 ERA in 71 innings. He struck out 79 and walked 34.

Source: Pirates sign Nate McLouth to 1-year deal

According to Ken Rosenthal, the Pirates have agreed to a 1-year deal for former Pirate outfielder Nate McLouth. McLouth was traded in 2009 to the Atlanta Braves for Charlie Morton, Gorkys Hernandez, and Jeff Locke. In 2008, McLouth led the NL in doubles and posted an OPS of .853 in what looked like a breakout
