Jose Tabata Homers in 5-4 Loss to Twins

Final: Twins 5, Pirates 4 (box)

WP: Cole De Vries (1-0, 0.00 ERA)
LP: Kris Johnson (0-1, 9.00 ERA)
SV: Pedro Hernandez (1, 0.00 ERA)

50x50_t470Kyle McPherson got the nod on the hill today for the Bucs and pitched two scoreless innings. He gave up one hit, which turned out to be the first hit given up by Pirates’ starters this spring. Pirates’ starting pitchers have still yet to give up a run through the first three games.

50x50_t470Jose Tabata went 1 for 2 with a solo home run to left field in the seventh inning off reliever Esmerling Vasquez. Jordy Mercer was 2 for 3 and Travis Snider drove in two runs, going 1 for 1 with a double and two sacrifice flies.

50x50_t470Chris Leroux, Phil Irwin, and Ryan Reid combined to retire nine straight batters and three strikeouts as they each pitched a scoreless inning.

50x50_t470Jeanmar Gomez got roughed up a bit, giving up four runs on three hits and two walks. Gomez is on the club’s 40-man roster and is out of options, so he is someone to keep an eye on as the spring goes along.

50x50_t470Wandy Rodriguez will make his first start of the spring tomorrow against Baltimore at 1:05 ET.
