A few more things came out today involving trade rumors and the Pirates.
Let’s start with Justin Upton.
Jon Morosi of Fox Sports writes that the Pirates remain in contact with Arizona expressing their interest for the 24-year old right fielder. Morosi also writes that currently, the Pirates have yet to agreed to part with either Jameson Taillon or Starling Marte in a trade (I’d have to assume Gerrit Cole is also “untouchable”).
If that’s the case, I don’t see a trade for Upton happening. Without giving up at least one of those guys, I just simply can’t imagine a possible scenario that Arizona would agree to. There are still two weeks left before the deadline, so I’m sure we’ll be hearing much more on this in the near future.
Buster Olney also reports (Insider only) speaking to several officials who are convinced that the Diamondbacks, are indeed, going to trade Upton before the deadline.
According to Jim Bowden from ESPN, there are currently six teams interested in Chase Headley, with the Pirates being one of those six teams. Bowden adds that Headley is “likely” to be traded before the deadline.
As for Headley’s teammate, Carlos Quentin, Jon Heyman reports that there is much interest in him, with the Pirates being one of the teams interested. However, nothing really has materialized in talks with any team yet. Quentin is set to be a free agent at the end of the year and the Padres are entitled to a compensation draft pick if they lose him, so they are apparently waiting for an offer that would be better than the value of that pick.
