According to Ben Badler from Baseball America, the Pirates have signed Julio De La Cruz, a 16-year old third baseman from the Dominican Republic. He was ranked as Baseball America’s 16th best international prospect. De La Cruz will receiver a signing bonus of $700,00.
From Pirates Prospects:
De La Cruz is an athletic third baseman who makes good contact, and has average power. He’s currently 6′ 1″, 190 pounds, with room to fill out and add more power down the line. He has a strong arm on the field, and should stick at third base.
The Pirates have been all over De La Cruz for a while, and it’s nice to see it be made official. He has drawn some pretty good reviews from scouts and is a good addition to the system.
