Cody Ransom’s Grand Slam Buries Bucs

Final: Brewers 10, Pirates 7

WP: Francisco Rodriguez (2-4, 3.86 ERA)
LP: Tony Watson (4-1, 5.00 ERA)

This was just one of those really strange games. First off, it took forever (3 hours, 50 mins). Second, a lot of really good things happened for the Pirates. And third, a lot of really bad things happened for the Pirates. Unfortunately, the bad things out-weighed the good things.

The Good:

Andrew McCutchen went 3 for 4 with a walk and his 19th home run of the year.

Neil Walker extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a three-run homer in the fourth inning.

Pedro Alvarez crushed a 440 ft home run in the fifth inning.

Drew Sutton was 2 for 5 with an RBI double.

Jared Hughes got a big strikeout to get out of a jam in the fifth inning to preserve a one-run lead.

The Bad:

James McDonald was all over the place, failing to get through five innings. He gave up eight hits and five walks while striking out only two in 4 2/3 innings.

Casey McGehee went 0 for 5 with four strikeouts, including the final out of the game.

Ryan Braun was 4 for 4 with a walk and two home runs.

Gorkys Hernandez got picked off first base immediately following a failed bunt attempt/strikeout of Clint Barmes after pinch running for Rod Barajas in the eighth inning.

Tony Watson, who for some reason was allowed to pitch over 30 pitches in the eighth inning of a tied game, gave up a two-out grand slam home run to Cody Ransom.
