Final: Pirates 11, Phillies 7
Boy, this was a wild game.
The Phillies started things out with back-to-back homers in the first inning from Chase Utley and Carlos Ruiz to go ahead 2-0. But the Bucs stormed back scoring the game’s next eight runs, thanks in large part to Michael McKenry, James McDonald, and Casey McGehee.
But then the Phillies scored two in the 6th inning to cut the lead to 8-4. They then added three more runs in the 7th inning and had runners on 1st and 2nd with no one out down just one run. Luckily, Brad Lincoln was able to come in and get a strikeout, fly out, and then a strikeout of Jim Thome to finish off the inning. It was a pretty spectacular outing from him to clean things up.
Then, the Bucs finally pulled away for good with three runs in the 8th inning, capped off by a two-run homer by Andrew McCutchen.
The “McEffect” was in full swing tonight. James McDonald got the win and an RBI single in the 4th. Andrew McCutchen was 2 for 5 with his 14th homer and two RBI. Casey McGehee hit his 4th home run of the season and Michael McKenry stayed hot going 2 for 4 with a three-run homer in the 2nd.
Newly acquired Drew Sutton was 2 for 4 with a walk and an RBI double in the 8th.
He’s fitting in nicely.
Neil Walker had a big day going 3 for 4 with a double and three runs scored. He still has a pretty disappointing line of .263/.325/.361. Getting that last number up a bit would be a lot better.
Jose Tabata went 2 for 5 with a big, two-out RBI single in the 5th. But he also had two of the worst at-bats you’ll ever see someone have and had a terrible misplay in RF during the Phillies big 7th inning. I have no idea.
