Minor League News and Notes

Lots of stuff happening over the past few days.

Drew Maggi and Evan Chambers were both promoted to AA-Altoona from High A-Bradenton. Both moves are somewhat surprising because they were putting up less than stellar numbers. Maggi’s OPS was .660 and Chambers’ was .607. Stefan Welch, who is more of an organizational guy, was also bumped up to Altoona from Bradenton. He is having much more success (.749 OPS) than the other two.

Matt Curry tweeted out today that he ran sprints for the first time since his hamstring injury, which has kept him out of action for the Curve since May 30th. He also states that he is set to return on Tuesday. Curry was hitting .284/.342/.438 before the injury.

State College released their mini camp roster. The most notable name on the list is 17-year old LHP Luis Heredia. Heredia posted a 4.75 ERA in 30 1/3 innings last season in the Gulf Coast League as a 16-year old. It will be interesting to see how he does against hitters 4-5 years older than him in the NY-Penn League. It’s definitely an aggressive move.

There were also a ton of other “smaller” roster moves made within the lower levels of the minors. Pirates Prospects has them all listed here.
