Jeff Karstens pulled from rehab start with leg injury

Published on June 7, 2012 by in Injuries

This, obviously, is not good news. We will probably hear more about the extent of the injury later tonight or tomorrow, but this was supposed to be Karstens’ final rehab start before joining the rotation next week.

He was rolling, too with 4 1/3 scoreless innings with five strikeouts. When he left the game, two runners were on base, who eventually scored to go against him, but it was shaping up to be a very good tune-up.

The Pirates said that Karstens left the game “after feeling tightness in his right groin.” He will be evaluated and treated further tomorrow.

Kristy Robinson of Pirates Prospects tweets that after Karstens’ MRI, it has been determined that he has a strained hip flexor, not his groin, and that he is being listed as day-to-day.
