Gerrit Cole and Jameson Taillon selected for Futures Game

Major League Baseball revealed the Futures Game rosters today and the Pirates’ 2010 and 2011 1st round picks will be on display for the US Team in Kansas City on July 8th.

Jameson Taillon, who is currently the #5 prospect in all of baseball by MLB.com, will be making his first Futures Game appearance. In 14 starts with High-A Bradenton, the 20-year old Taillon is 4-6 with a 4.10 ERA. Over 74 2/3 innings, he has struck a 67:20 K:BB ratio.

Gerrit Cole is ranked as MLB.com’s 8th best prospect in the minors and will be joining Taillon in his first ever Futures Game. Cole, 21, made 13 starts with High-A Bradenton going 5-1 with a 2.55 ERA. In 67 innings, he posted a 69:21 K:BB rate. He is just coming off his Double-A debut, where he gave up two runs in five innings for Altoona. He struck out six batters and didn’t allow a walk. He retired the first nine batters he faced.

The game will be televised on ESPN2 and MLB.TV.
