Former 1st rounder Daniel Moskos designated for assignment

The #Pirates have designated for assignment LHP Daniel Moskos to clear a space on the 40-man roster for catcher Eric Fryer.

This is a somewhat surprising move as I had anticipated either Daniel McCutchen or Evan Meek to be the guy dropped from the roster, but instead it is 2007 4th overall pick Daniel Moskos.

Moskos, 26, has been a pretty big disappointment since being drafted. He’s been under a lot of criticism from fans, too, as Matt Wieters was the preferred choice among most. After reaching Double-A, Moskos was converted to a reliever, where he’s experienced some success in the upper levels and even owns a 2.96 ERA over 24 1/3 innings in the Majors last season.

I would assume Moskos gets picked up by somebody. He has options left, has ok stuff, and he’s left-handed, so he could be useful for someone. I wish him nothing but the best of luck. He’s never been a fan favorite, but you have to remember that it wasn’t his fault he was drafted over Wieters.
