Erik Bedard rocked as Orioles complete sweep of Bucs

Published on June 14, 2012 by in Game Recaps

Final: Orioles 12, Pirates 6

WP: Tommy Hunter (3-3, 5.58 ERA)
LP: Erik Bedard (4-7, 4.36 ERA)

The Orioles scored 10 runs in this one before the Pirates even got a single player on base. That is not a recipe for success.

The Pirates’ offense eventually woke up and scored six runs on ten hits, but it was way too late as this one was put out of reach early on.

Erik Bedard gave up seven runs in 3 1/3 innings in what was easily his worst outing of the season. All but one of those seven runs were scored with two outs.

Even the usually steady bullpen was pretty bad in this one. Doug Slaten gave up three runs, all on a Steve Pearce home run, to end his scoreless inning streak that dated back to the first week of April. Chris Resop did ok giving up just a run over 3 innings, and Jared Hughes gave up a solo homer to Mark Reynolds in the 8th.

Rod Barajas hit a 3-run homer in the 5th inning, his 6th home run of the season. Andrew McCutchen, Garrett Jones, and Clint Barmes were all 2 for 4.

Pedro Alvarez was 1 for 4 with an RBI single. It was the first run driven in by Alvarez since May 28th. Casey McGehee was 1 for 3 with a walk and an RBI single. Jose Tabata went 1 for 4 with a double.

Let’s get the hell out of Baltimore. That was dreadful.
