Clint Barmes, Alex Presley club Reds

Final: Pirates 8, Reds 4

WP: A.J. Burnett (5-2, 3.76 ERA)

LP: Homer Bailey (4-4, 4.39 ERA)

SV: Joel Hanrahan (15, 2.57 ERA)

Cincinnati scored two runs in the first inning of this game and I’m not going to lie, I didn’t feel too good after that. Homer Bailey was on the hill for the Reds, who went into the game with a 6-0 record and a 1.79 ERA in eight career starts against the Pirates. It wasn’t the way you want things to start.

But Garrett Jones started the 2nd inning off with a single and a stolen base. He would score on an RBI single by Casey McGehee. After a fielder’s choice by Rod Barajas, Clint Barmes doubled deep to left center field to score Barajas all the way from first base.

Alex Presley then led off the 3rd inning with a triple and later scored on a 2-run homer by Neil Walker, his 3rd of the year. Barmes would later deliver a 2-run single in the inning to push the Pirates’ lead to 6-2.

McGehee and Presley would both add a solo home run to put the game totally out of reach.

A.J. Burnett gave up three runs over five innings. He struck out eight batters, despite not having his best stuff. The Pirates have won each of Burnett’s last six starts. Statistically speaking, this was Burnett’s 2nd worst start of the season. He sure has been better than expected.

After Barmes was benched last week, he is 5 for 11 with a double and a home run since returning to the lineup. Man it sure would be nice if he could become somewhat productive.
