Pirates acquire Jeff Larish from Red Sox

Published on May 11, 2012 by in Transactions

Tim Williams was first to report tonight that the Pirates have acquired corner infielder Jeff Larish from the Boston Red Sox for cash. Larish will report to AAA-Indianapolis.

Larish, 29, has a .224/.308/.380 line in 276 MLB plate appearances over parts of three seasons with Detroit and Oakland. He has four seasons of AAA experience an .834 OPS over his time there.

This move is obviously just an organizational depth move as Larish has an incredibly low chance of ever making it to Pittsburgh. One does have to assume, though, if this move means that Jake Fox could soon be promoted to the big league club. Fox is hitting .327/.400/.519 in 17 games for the Tribe and could provide some much-needed offensive help off the Pirates’ bench.
