Published on May 25, 2012 by in Transactions

Today it was announced that OF Nate McLouth has been designated for assignment by the Pirates and that Matt Hague has been recalled from AAA-Indianapolis.

McLouth has had a dreadful start to 2012 and is 0 for his last 21 at-bats. For the year he hit .140/.210/.175 in 62 plate appearances. He was signed to a one-year, $1.75 million contract, which the Pirates will have to eat unless McLouth is picked up by another team.

Hague will now have his second stint with the ML team after breaking camp with the club. Over nine at-bats in April, he had one hit before he was sent back down to AAA. Over 144 at-bats with Indianapolis, he was hitting .278/.325/.333 with one home run. He was 10 for his last 26 at-bats, collecting multiple hits in four of his last eight games.
