Final: Reds 6, Pirates 1
WP: Johnny Cueto (4-0, 1.31 ERA)
LP: Kevin Correia (1-2, 3.38 ERA)
Johnny Cueto pitched a complete game and the Reds mashed eight extra base hits, including three home runs. Kevin Correia was able to give the Pirates seven innings, which was well needed after the bullpen had pitched over nine innings the past two days. But he did give up five runs along the way.
The Pirates’ only run came on a sacrifice fly by Pedro Alvarez.
Nate McLouth started in favor of the ill Andrew McCutchen. He went 2 for 4 and finally increased his average above the Mendoza Line.
After Johnny Cueto’s complete game victory, he is 11-3 with a 2.55 ERA against the Pirates in 16 career starts against the Pirates. One out of every four of his career wins are against the Pirates.
Pedro Alvarez went 1 for 3 and increased his hitting streak to seven games.
