Home Game Recaps Pedro Alvarez homers in 2-1 Pirates win

Pedro Alvarez homers in 2-1 Pirates win

Final: Pirates 2, Diamondbacks 1

WP: Brad Lincoln (1-0, 0.00 ERA)
LP: Daniel Hudson (1-1, 6.00 ERA)
SV: Juan Cruz (2, 0.00 ERA)

In a game where a lengthy outing by the starting pitcher would have been nice, James McDonald did just the opposite. McDonald was effective, but inefficient, as he pitched four innings giving up just one run on three hits. Yesterday, the Pirates’ bullpen pitched eight innings, so it was up to the recently called up Brad Lincoln to bridge the gap to the end of the game. Lincoln did just that with three scoreless innings in his first outing of 2012.

Pedro Alvarez homered [video] in the 7th inning to tie the game up at one and Neil Walker singled [video] in the go ahead run in the 8th inning.

Chris Resop and Tony Watson combined for a scoreless 8th and Juan Cruz pitched a scoreless 9th for his 2nd save in as many days.

Andrew McCutchen continued his hot start going 2 for 3 with a walk. His line now stands at .400/.460/.444. I guess the only thing right now that one can be critical about with Cutch is that he has just two extra base hits so far this year.

Pedro Alvarez homered and also drew a walk. He is now 2 for 27 on the year with two homers 13 strikeouts.

Juan Cruz had two save attempts in two days. Joel Hanrahan had one save attempt in nine games. Hanrahan was sidelined this series with a tweaked hamstring. Cruz filled in quite nicely.
