Final: Dodgers 2, Pirates 1
Kevin Correia started for the Pirates and matched the 2011 NL Cy Young winner pitch-for-pitch allowing just one run over six innings. The Pirates just could not capitalize on any of their opportunities against Clayton Kershaw and the rest of the Dodgers pitchers.
As a team, the Pirates were 0 for 6 with runners in scoring position this afternoon. They scored their only run on an RBI ground out for Matt Hague. Half of those at bats came in the 2nd inning when Casey McGehee led off the inning with a triple and ended up being stranded there.
I didn’t watch the game, but apparently Juan Cruz was especially filthy today. He has looked really good early on and has struck out five batters in three scoreless innings thus far.
Clint Barmes was 0 for 3 and is now 0 for 12 to start off the season. Probably not the first impression he wanted to give us.
Alex Presley continues to hit with a 2 for 4 performance. He has hit safely in each of the club’s four games.
Andrew McCutchen was 1 for 4 and grounded into his 3rd double play in four games. He only hit into seven DP’s all of last year.
