Bucs’ bats quieted again in 5-1 loss

Final: Cardinals 5, Pirates 1

WP: Kyle Lohse (3-0, 0.99 ERA)
LP: Erik Bedard (0-4, 2.63 ERA)

I didn’t get to watch any of this one, but based on scrolling through Twitter and looking at the box score, it doesn’t look pretty.

Erik Bedard gave up three runs over seven innings as he became the first Pirates pitcher to eclipse the 100-pitch mark in a game this year. He struck out seven and walked four.

The Pirates’ only run came on an RBI pinch-hit single by Casey McGehee in the 8th inning following a Michael McKenry double.

Chris Resop pitched a scoreless 8th innings, but Evan Meek faltered in the 9th, giving up two runs on three hits and a walk.

Jose Tabata was 2 for 4 with a double, which gave him his second multi-hit game of the series. It would really be nice to get him going. He is now hitting .170/.220/.191 in 47 AB.

The Pirates gave up five runs today, but have still yet to give up more than that in a game this season. They also have yet to score more than five runs in a game.

Erik Bedard has made four starts. In those four starts, the Pirates have scored a total of three runs. Pretty easy to have an 0-4 record when that happens.
