Weekend Notes: Burnett, Walker, Marte

A.J. Burnett is back in Bradenton and has started his rehab process after fouling a ball into his eye during a bunting drill. He played catch today for about 50 throws. The timeframe of 8-12 weeks still seems likely, which would put his return to the rotation sometime in May.

Neil Walker is cleared to play and will start at second base tomorrow. Walker had been sidelined with a back injury from earlier in the week.

ESPN’s Jim Bowden tweeted today that the Nationals inquired on Starling Marte and were told that he is not available. At this point, I don’t think Marte is “untouchable,” but it would surely take a pretty massive haul to pry him away. Earlier this week, in our podcast, I mentioned that if the time comes and the outfield situation starts getting crowded, I would look to move either Nate McLouth or Alex Presley. Not Marte.
