Final: Blue Jays 8, Pirates 5
WP: Darren Oliver (1-0, 18.00 ERA)
LP: Shairon Martis (0-1, 0.00 ERA)
SV: Jesse Chavez (1, 0.00 ERA)
The Pirates made 3 errors (Chase d’Arnaud, Shairon Martis, and Starling Marte), which led to 3 unearned runs. There was also some poor base running as Rod Barajas was thrown out at 2nd trying to stretch a single into a double and d’Arnaud was picked off 1st base.
Erik Bedard started and gave went 2 innings and gave up 2 runs, both earned, on 1 hit, 2 walks, and a hit by pitch.
A new, slimmed down Evan Meek struggled and wasn’t able to get through his inning of work. He gave up 4 runs (3 ER) on 4 hits and 2 walks in 0.2 IP.
Closer Joel Hanrahan looked great with a 1-2-3 inning while recording 2 strikeouts. Jason Grilli and Daniel Moskos both pitched scoreless frames as well.
Rod Barajas was 2 for 2 with a 2-run single. Nick Evans followed his poor game from yesterday with a solo home run in the 7th inning and Gorkys Hernandez had another good game as he went 1 for 1 with a walk.
The Pirates will play Baltimore tomorrow night at 7:05 ET. The game will be shown on MASN and MLB.tv. We’ll have the live blog up during the game.
