Charlie Morton to start season on the disabled list

Published on March 29, 2012 by in Injuries

Neal Huntington announced today that Charlie Morton will start the season on the 15-day disabled list.

During the off season, we all expected this to happen, but after seeing how quickly Morton has bounced back from surgery to his hip, there was hope he would be ready for the start of the season.

Morton will be eligible to come off the DL on April 14th. The Pirates will need a 5th starter on April 15th, so it seems like Morton will be the obvious answer as long as he continues to progress. He will pitch in a simulated in Bradenton on April 4th and will make a rehab start for AAA-Indianapolis on April 9th.

Morton is looking to build off a career year in 2011 where he went 10-10 with a 3.83 ERA over 171 2/3 innings.
