Final: Pirates 5, Cardinals 4
WP: Chris Resop (4-4)
LP: Arthur Rhodes (0-1)
It’s good to finally have my computer back so I can get back to writing these things. And it’s good, too, that the Pirates won this won to clinch a series win against the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Pirates scored all 5 runs in this one thanks to home runs. Andrew McCutchen hit a 3-run shot in the 3rd inning, Neil Walker hit a solo homer in the 9th to tie the game up, and Garrett Jones ended it with a splash down homer in the 11th off 87-year old Arthur Rhodes.
Jeff Karstens did his thing as he continued to give the Bucs a chance to win the game as he gave up 3 ER over 5 1/3 innings. Jason Grilli would get out of a jam in the 6th and pitch a scoreless 7th. Jose Veras looked nasty in a scoreless 8th inning. Joel Hanrahan did give up a run in the 9th inning that gave the Cards a 4-3 lead, but it ended up not hurting the Pirates thanks to Walker’s blast in the 9th to send the game into extra frames. Chris Resop pitched excellent with a scoreless 10th and 11th innings to pick his 4th win of the year.
It was also Jose Tabata’s first game back in the lineup after his trip to the disabled list. He went 1 for 4 with a walk.
