Home Game Recaps Derrek Lee’s debut not enough for Bucs

Derrek Lee’s debut not enough for Bucs

Final: Cubs 5, Pirates 3

WP: Carlos Zambrano (8-6)
LP: Paul Maholm (6-11)
SV: Carlos Marmol (21)

Derrek Lee sure had quite the debut. However, it wasn’t enough to end the Pirates’ losing streak as they dropped the series opener against the Cubs for their 4th loss in a row.

Paul Maholm gave up 4 runs on 6 hits over 6 innings, 3 of which, coming in the 6th inning.

Lee certainly did his part as he went 2 for 4 with 2 homers and 3 RBI as he produced the only three runs of the game for the Pirates. Neil Walker and Pedro Alvarez also each had 2 hits. In fact, Ryan Ludwick was the only Pirates’ position player in the starting lineup who did not record a hit. Unfortunately, they just weren’t able to string together anything to outscore the Cubs even though they did out hit them 10-7.

The Pirates will look to rebound and right the ship tomorrow night as Kevin Correia looks to end his home woes against Randy Wells.
