Final: Cubs 11, Pirates 6
WP: Randy Wells (3-4)
LP: Kevin Correia (12-9)
The Pirates brought their bats today, however, Correia didn’t bring his arm as his struggles at PNC Park continued. Correia gave up 8 runs in 2 innings and the Pirates were out of this one pretty early as he gave up 10 hits in those innings, 4 of which were home runs.
The Pirates still somehow managed to make this one somewhat close thanks in large part to two homers by Garrett Jones and another 2-run homer by Brandon Wood. But it wasn’t enough to match the Cubs hit parade as they managed 21 hits and 6 homers.
The loss was the Pirates’ 5th in a row and dropped them to .500 on the season, 6 games back of the Milwaukee Brewers. They really do need to start winning some games if they want to have a shot at competing for this division as Milwaukee is quickly pulling away from the pack.
Charlie Morton will look to end the losing streak tomorrow night against Matt Garza as the Bucs will look to take the 3rd game of this 4 game series.
