2B Brock Holt became the second Pirates’ prospect to be named the MVP of his league’s all-star game Wednesday night as he started the scoring with a 2-run homer in the 2nd inning of the AA-Eastern League All-Star Game. Holt would finish the evening 1 for 2.
Starling Marte started in CF for the Western All-Stars and hit 2nd in the lineup. Marte ended up going 0 for 2 with a strikeout. It was Marte’s 2nd All-Star game this week after playing in the MLB Futures Game in Phoenix on Sunday.
LHP Jeff Locke pitched a scoreless 4th inning and RHP Aaron Pribinac pitched 2/3 scoreless and actually picked up the win in relief.
The other Pirate prospect to win an ASG MVP award this season was 1B Aaron Baker, who like Holt, went 1 for 2 with a 2-run homer in the Florida State League All-Star Game last month.
Holt is the 4th Altoona Curve player to win the EL ASG MVP award. The most recent Curve to win it was Chase d’Arnaud last season.
