Bucs sign 41st round pick Jon Schwind

Published on June 17, 2011 by in Draft

Kristy Robinson first reported that the Pirates have signed 41st round draft pick Jon Schwind today. Schwind, 21, was drafted as a catcher by the Bucs, but has played multiple positions throughout his collegiate career.

Pirates Prospects says his signing bonus was $20,000 and that the Pirates will pay for his senior year of college ($41,000).

Schwind will start off his professional career in Bradenton for the GCL Pirates, where he should be able to put up some solid numbers going there as a college draftee. He is the 7th player the Pirates have signed from the 2011 Draft.

Here is what Baseball America had to say about Schwind:

Schwind is more of a player for next year’s draft, but he’s a good athlete with quick hands and a slashy swing at the plate. He has an above-average arm that should allow him to be a super-utility player at the next level, and he’s a plus runner.
