Bucs agree to terms with 4th rounder Colten Brewer

Published on June 20, 2011 by in Draft

Pirates Prospects is reporting that the Pirates have agreed to terms with their 4th round pick, Colten Brewer. Brewer had a commitment to Weatherford Junior College in Texas, so it looks like the Bucs were able to convince him to pass on that pretty easily.

Brewer, a RHP, went 8-1 with a 1.36 ERA in 56 2/3 innings his senior year of high school.

Brewer was ranked as the #38 prospect in Texas leading into the draft. He has a projectable frame at 6′ 4″, 200 pounds. As of now his fastball sits in the high 80’s mostly, but can touch the low 90’s. Scouts hope he can build on that velocity as he fills out.

Brewer is the 11th player signed from the 2011 Draft so far and is the highest draftee to sign up to this point. His career will most likely start in the GCL.

UPDATE (7/16):
Brewer’s signing bonus is $240,000, which marks the highest of any 4th round pick up to this point.
