Saturday Links and Things

- Carlos Garcia is the new 1st base/infield coach for the Bucs. Garcia, who played for the Pirates for 7 years from 1990-1996 and was an all-star in 1994 has been the team's minor league fielding instructor the past 2 seasons. Garcia held a similar role (3rd base coach/IF instructor) with the Mariners between 2005-2007. The Mariners led the majors in fielding percentage in '05 and finished in the top 5 in both '06 and '07. So it seems like a good hire to me.

- Freddy Sanchez has signed a 2-year, $12 million contract with the Giants. Sanchez had declined a 2-year, $10 million offer from the Pirates earlier in '09 before being traded, so it seems like that offer was pretty fair. The Giants probably offered a little more than market value for Sanchez simply because they had to. Trading Tim Alderson for 25 games of Sanchez would have looked pretty bad.

- Also, I removed the Winter League Trackers. They were awesome, but it just got way too hard to keep them updated every day. I will continue to follow the Winter Leagues, though, and will have a weekly roundup of the guys playing every Sunday.
