Today the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros finished a suspended game from May 5th. It was picked up in the bottom of the 11th inning with the score tied 10-10. Washington would go on to score to win it in that frame. Seems like a normal ending to a game, right?
Well, Joel Hanrahan was the last pitcher to pitch for Washington in that game. He pitched a scoreless top of the 11th. That meant that Hanrahan was the pitcher of record for the game and was awarded the win.
Hanrahan was napping, he told ESPN, during the game and woke up to several text messages congratulating him on the win.
Want another weird kicker...Nyjer Morgan scored the game winning run. So basically, it's like the Nats made a trade in the middle of a game and the person they traded got the win and the person they got in return scored the winning run. Insane.
Other news and notes:
- Continuing the updated Pirates' top 10 prospects list is #9 Chase D'Arnaud today.
- I was away from the computer all day so I wasn't able to get into the whole Freddy Sanchez trade talk. If you aren't aware...first the Pirates were "pushing" for a trade, but now they aren't. Whatever, Sanchez is still a Pirate.
- Lastings Milledge will join AAA-Indianapolis now as he keeps rehabbing his broken finger. He says that he has not received any setbacks, but that it is still swolen and could remain swolen for quite some time.
- The Pirates will most likely call up Luis Cruz or activate Ryan Doumit from the disabled list before Friday's game.
- Doumit went 2 for 4 today for Indianapolis, which broke an 0 for 20 streak.
- In Altoona, Gorkys Hernandez went 2 for 4 with a homer. Pedro Alvarez extended his hitting streak to 7 games as he was 2 for 3 with a double.
- Starling Marte hit his first home run of the year for the Power en route to a 3 for 4 night. Tony Sanchez was 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and a walk.
- Victor Black started for the Spikes today and gave up 1 ER in 3 IP.
